Hm, I found this in the release notes: USB stick installs will fail unless
they are created without persistence enabled. This is fixed in updates, but not
on the CD. (627672)
So I'll make a new usb, and retry, and close this bug if it works.

This bug applies to me too, both on Maveric alpha (2? the one released
before september 2) 64bit and Lucid 64bit. Possibly Lucid 32bit, but I
don't remember. This is on a Toshiba Satellite A300-1OL.

Ubuntu has a too old version of solfege. This is fixed in 3.10.1. But
the workaround mentioned above using --no-sound works fine.
