Sorry for the delay, I had extreme priority items to deal with. I upgraded my machine to 8.04. There were problems with packages, but after futzing around I got it. (All the package error stuff should not be done by me on the command line, I would think it should be done in the background.)

Brian: Actually they do have dates in the grey heading for the comment box is says wrote X hours ago or wrote on 2007-12-04 if it is more than a day old. Yes, I saw that. At that point I didn't know that it would switch to date format. I find date format more useful. This is 'cutsie'.

Brian: You're welcome. I tried it now and as before it powered down nicely. On reboot it did the bios thing and then there was a one line error across the top of the screen. I didn't catch all of it but it had: ... error creating sysfs ... I'm not sure it was 'sysfs', but it was something

Brian: Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago I noticed that there is no date on the bug page or any of the comments. The actual date/time of the comments would help people to know how long ago something was said.

Public bug reported: I tried hybernation on Ubuntu. It shut down my system. I then powered up. During reboot there were error messages flying by -couldn't read them. Finally it froze at the Ubuntu splash page. But there was a white strip across the page horizontally and the word Ubuntu was
