providing a really weird experience when changing workspace.

When locking my screen, I often get the lock screen that freezes. I am
able to move my mouse but I can't interact with anything on the screen.
After "smashing" my keyboard (I press enter/space) sometimes the screen
locks out and I can type my password to login into my system

It failes on me too. Using Ubuntu mat 18 LTS trying to move to 20.
Tried to reinstall / mess around python packages with apt with no luck...

If I do a fresh install will the touch pad problem get resolved? I get
touchpad control intermittently. I have to use an external mouse for my
Toshiba satellte laptop. I noticed if I go to my bios an exit saving I
get touch pad control back sometimes.

I installed "build-essential", there was no more the error window, but the
screen blinked and only command line (no graphic mode) was available.
Then I re-installed the NVIDIA driver, using this command line:

I couldn't make function keys work so far! I followed the instructions and made
all changes to sony-brightness-up and down, but still doesn't work !
anyway I'm so happy that I can change brightness from now
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ190N with Nvidia GeForce 8400M GT
I've tried Smartdimmer but it says Smartdimmer is only supported on certain
laptops using a Geforce 6200/7x00Go. If you want support on your laptop contact
the author.
Is there any solution for 8400M GT ? or not yet ?

i selected the boot option from the cd , it loaded files to boot , after that ,
it failed to load hardware driver and a LOTS of error came out , i tried with
live cd , alternate desktop CD , all error.
