Public bug reported:
I am experiencing almost 100% reproducible iwlwifi firmware crashes on
my Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th, model 20KHS03800 connected to Turris
Omnia router on 5Gh. Anytime I send file from Android phone using
kdeconnect, my laptop disconnects from wifi.
The issue seems to be
I also experience system freezes, usually after resume from suspend on
X1 Carbon 6th. It happens on 4.18.0-15 and 5.3.0-40 kernels. I am
running with no issues for many months on 4.15, currently
4.15.0-88-generic.

I'm running 16.04 with xenial-proposed enabled and I'm experiencing
random freezes like this a few times a day since kernel upgrade about
two weeks ago.

I installed lastest updates from xenial-proposed and the problem is

got this crash report.

For me the problem seems to be fixed with today update to network-
manager 1.2.6 in xenial-proposed. So far I did some 5-7 suspend/resume
cycles in different locations and everything seems to work.

I can confirm that after every resume my wifi is not working. I used to
"solve" it by network-manager restart but running "wpa_cli resume"
manually fixes the problem as well.
I tried the sleep workaround by Hans but it did not help. I can see this
in /var/log/syslog:

To install the new kernel on xenial, enable Pre-release updates
(xenial-proposed) in System Settings - Software & Updates - Developer Options
and run
sudo apt-get install linux-generic-hwe-16.04-edge
After reboot you'll probably get this error.

There are so many open bugs on network-manager, wifi and resume that
it's difficult to find the right one to comment on. Anyway, trying e.g.

Docker installed on their system?
I am specifically asking this question because a
Is there any plan to update network manager in Xenial to 1.2.6. In the
changelog at
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/tree/NEWS?h=1.2.6
I can see
* Fixed a bug that caused devices to stay unmanaged after resume from
sleep.
Not sure if it helps but maybe worth trying.

@raharper I installed the packages from your PPA on 16.04 and I can
confirm that "IPSEC/IKEv2 (strongswan)" option is now present in nm-
applet.
But I'm not sure how can I configure L2TP VPN like this http://freel2tpvpn.com/
This VPN (as well as our company one I need to use) has short secret but
Verified with unity 7.4.0+16.04.20160801.2-0ubuntu1 - it no more crashes
and the keyboard layout changes as expected.
