whatever reason, the username is invalid by default, and so you can't
continue to install.

Confirming the bug on Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop.
I'm experiencing the same issue with my Transcend 320GB StoreJet 25M. It
is connected with one USB2.0 cable and has no additional power supply.
I've attached the requested files, that were prepared after a clean
boot, and also a part of the messages log
