After sudo update-apt-xapian-index the search works fine.
I suppose this should have happened automatically.

I have a fresh intrepid install on an EEEPC 901.
The adept manager search returns only already installed or recently uninstalled
packages.
The search works fine in adept installer -returning all matching packages.

/boot/grub/menu.list
Or you can edit the Grub menu entries directly from the boot menu by pressing
the key.

Just a note.
I had the same problem with Gentoo 2008 beta1 live CD, but now I can boot fine
from Gennto 2008 beta2 live CD.
They have fixed this problem somehow.

It turns out, if you wait long enough, a recovery shell is presented.
So I dumped contents of dmesg to an USB flash drive.
See the attachment. Note that it contains also messeges for plugging the USB
drive in.
Looks like the problem is indeed with SATA devices.

I upgraded to the just released kubuntu, using the Update Manager and got an
unbootable system.
So I put in the ubuntu install CD to try boot from it.
The install CD was unable to boot too.
Everything worked fine with Gutsy.
