uses metacity. If you, like me, want to install compiz-core then you are
left out without a window manager, shouldn't gtk-window-decorator be
available?

OK Jani, I found out the bug.
The problem was that I have XGL installed, and to start it it would run
/usr/bin/startxgl.sh , however, this file ran xfce4-session instead of
startxfce4. Thanks for the help.

Does /etc/profile has an autopackage line which may not be sourced
because it uses [[ instead of test and does not run in /bin/dash mean
that I should have to change anything?

I can't check, but I assume xubuntu-artwork-usplash was installed, as I
did have the Xubuntu usplash, and xfce will probably have been installed
too, cause that was what I used.

partitions, because it took me a while (and a few installs) to find it
out. I hope it helps someone.
First I partitioned my hard disk in a terminal window with sudo gparted
/dev/hdb. Then I started the installer, and selected
