i just followed the advice to report this bug automatically.
I just don't even know what the effect of this bug is, since it seems I can
continue to work...
In case it might help, this was a kubuntu-netbook install upon which I
just installed ubuntu-desktop (along with gdm).

I've just downloaded karmic alpha 5 and will try to do what you
suggested.
I can already testify that, as before, just "unmounting" the usb hard
disk via kde interface will not put it to sleep, and I can still hear
the "click" when I unplug it.

I had another crash tonight at 18:37. As often, it occurred at the login
dialog, when I left it for a couple of minute after booting without
doing anything. I took a screenshot and can upload it if you need it,
but it is basically the same as the one I already put here.

yesterday I have also found another fix: replace .kde/share/config/kwinrulesrc
by the one I had in kde 3.5. Don't ask me why then it works.
But your method is far better of course. In fact it should be related because
it is the file where the initial default size can be specified...

Hey, I think I know what causes this. It's the virtual size. It was
clearly written in my xorg.conf, so I should have noticed before. But
they stated that the issue was for pre-965 so I didn't pay attention. So
it seems that it holds for 965 as well.
