Same bug appears for AMD64 version. Odd, as I have successfully
installed this package on two other machines over the past couple of
months running same version of Lubuntu.

Thank you for following-up. The problem isn't with the internal mono
speaker, it is with the rear speaker jack. The rear speaker jack is not
muting when headphones are connected.
