Martins trick worked till 19.04. Since 19.10 it seems to be ignored.
Freetype now has version 2.9.1. Any ideas ?

Font hinting appears
I just installed the new KDE Neon Bionic version as a VM. The Trick
doesn't work there. The freetype-version is 2.8.1-2ubuntu2 like on the
Kubuntu Host. Maybe the /etc/environment is ignored there. I'm just
researching.

I can report that the solution Martin reported works also for Monospace in
Konsole-sessions.
Because it's much better than downgrading, I removed all the changes I
described in #23 and it works like a charm.
Thanks a lot Martin!

Public bug reported:
I managed to install nvidia-driver 387.22 via ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa.
After that the 'kcmshell5 driver_manager' shows the nouveau-driver as installed
(see attachment).
** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-375 (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
**
In my humble opinion we have two problems here:
1. The unasked installation of the lowlatency-kernel during upgrade from 17.04
to 17.10.
2. Some nvidia driver don't work with that kernel.
As far as I know there is no need for a lowlatency-kernel, except of
some audio-applications and one-core
I just created two VMWare-machines to show the difference. One with a
Kubuntu17.10-image, one with a KDE-Neon-image. In Kubuntu I installed
the freetype-PPA to get Version 2.8.1, in KDE-Neon they stick to 2.6.1.
On both I startet a Konsole-Session with Monospace-Font. The Result is
attached.
**
Downgrade libfreetype6 to 2.6.3 as I decribed and it will be fixed.

Font hinting appears broken on 17.10 beta

I had the same Problem. The monospace-font in konsole looked ugly after upgrade
from 17.04.
Same with freetype 2.8.1.
Then I downgraded libfreetype to 2.6.3 as HorstBort mentioned, and konsole
looks nice again.
Here the description how I managed it:
1. add 'deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/
The 'lowlatency' kernel was installed during the upgrade. I never used
it before. As I know it's a realtime-kernel and there is no need for it
on a desktop pc.

Public bug reported:
I just upgraded Kubuntu from 17.04 to 17.10 on two machines with the
same Result:
After reboot, the first kernel in grub was 'linux-image-4.13.0-16-lowlatency'.
This kernel does not work with the nvidia-grafic-card and lead to a black
screen.
After purging this kernel in a
It still happens several times a day in Yakkety (kde: 5.26.0 QT: 5.6.1).

KWin crashes multiple times a day and often has to be restarted
I can't believe that there seems to be no demand for running the newest
Kubuntu-Version in a VM except us.
I tried with VMPlayer and VirtualBox on several Hosts. No one was
working !!

Tried the released image today. Still the same result. Seems to be a
race-condition while booting the vm. After resetting the hanging session
several times (sometiems getting a popup saying: "The CPU has been
disabled by the guest operating system"), I got into the login-screen
and all worked,
Just started the gui from within the root-console-session by entering
'startx' and surprisingly it worked !!

Tried the image from today. What has improved is, that the live-image starts
reliable in the vmplayer virtual machine now, and I am able to complete the
installation process. But booting into it always results in 100% cpu-usage and
a frozen system.
After shutting down and restarting, I am able
@Ibischoff: You are right. It was only luck that I got into the live
session and was able to start the installation on the vmplayer-machine.
I wasn't able to start the installed system.
How can anyone help to test, if it doesn't work in a virtual-machine ? I have
no spare real system to do it.

Got it running with this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1020019.

Calibration still does not work, but wasn't required in my case.

Affected is a NCR RealPOS 80XRT Pos-Terminal:
The touchscreen is a MicroTouch (3M USB - EX II), but got it running with the
evtouch-module (not mutouch as expected).
Now the problem is the calibration on Xubuntu 9.10. Got the well known
error-box: no evtouch capable device found.

I have a G550 video-card and got the same error message after updating my
debian-testing on 14 Sep 2009. To get the Xserver working again, I deleted the
'/etc/X11/xorg.conf' and restarted the window-manager. After that, both screens
were working again, but showing the same contents.
