looks like it's fixed now in 2.6.35-23-generic (after dist-upgrade):
When I don't blacklist the module everything works fine and I see these 2 lines
in dmesg:
[ 11.038643] intel ips :00:1f.6: No CPUID match found.
[ 11.038646] intel ips :00:1f.6: IPS not supported on this CPU
