Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: listen
After a reboot listen went useless. I turned off the computer while
music was still playin'. Guess I have to remove ~/.listen again.
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10
$ dpkg -l listen|grep listen
ii listen
Figured it out. It has something to do with a icon theme. I changed icon
theme to black white gloss 2 in xfce and now it's working. Still this
shouldn't happen, or?

Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) - no sound
Works here too!
I have a Compal IFT00 with a rev3 sound card.
I did:
sudo echo options snd-hda-intel model=acer /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-
base
..and rebooted. Make sure you have the backports package installed,
didn't work last time I tested this without the package.

Intel Corporation 82801H
I just installed linux-backports-modules-2.6.22-14-generic and
rebooted my system, but there is still no sound. So this fix does not
affect my system. What should I do?

I have the same problem, no sound at all on a fresh Kubuntu install. I
think this should be fixed right away since I use a package distro and
don't tend to mess up my system with installing from source.
