I am having the same problem with the gmail web app notifications in the
latest version of 13.04. When the number of unread emails is 0 again,
either by clicking the notification or opening the mail manually in the
browser the indication stays blue.

spotify, rhythmbox, flash freezes randomly
To manage notifications
Spotify (0.8.8.323.gd143501e) here on latest 13.04 is also freezing
every 2-3 songs. After killing spotify and pulseaudio spotify can be
succesfully restarted.
Installing libruby as suggested by some others made no difference for
me.
Killing pulseaudio alone is not enough to resume playing,
