This last comment seems important to me. Are you running xgl + nvidia + compiz?
If so then the issue must be XGL related, being the only common denominator.
I'm running XGL + ati (fglrz) + compiz.
Has anyone running AIGLX + ati (fglrx 8.42) + compiz seen this issue?
If not I'm considering
I am having the same problem:
Steps to reproduce:
1. A fresh install of Gutsy, on a PC with ATI 9600 card.
2. Installed fglrx using restricted driver manager.
3. Reboot and install of xorg-xgl
4. Set Power Management to Never
5. Set gnome-screensaver to off
Result:
After 10 minutes the screen
* All latest updates were installed.
* Driver used is fglrx not nvidia-glx-new, so I'm not sure what you mean...
