I confirm that the newly proposed kernel (4.15.0-45-generic) solves the
problem for me too (Dell latitude 5480+WD15 Dock). This closes the bug
1814117, marked as duplicate of this one.
That new kernel is now released in the standard ubuntu repository.
Thanks a lot!

With the kernel packets in version 4.15.0-43 (the ones I'm running to report
this bug), I can plug my Dell WD15 dock station normally on the USB-C connector
of my laptop, before or after booting it: everything works fine.
When I upgrade to the latest kernel (i.e. install

Well, just another comment added to post #14, I think it is better to install
all the packages that were generated, to maintain their coherence, ie replace
the two last operations by :
sudo dpkg -i xserver-common_1.7.6-2ubuntu7_all.deb
sudo dpkg -i xdmx_1.7.6-2ubuntu7_amd64.deb
I followed exactly jerry's instructions (post #6) in my Ubuntu 10.04
64bit system.
Unfortunatly the dpkg-buildpackage command, after a lot of successful
compilations, failed with the following last lines :
man: manp.c :1045 : get_manpath_from_path: L'assertion « len » a échoué.

Following the preceding post, it seems that there is a permission problem in
the source package for xserver-xorg (which is downloaded by 'apt-get source

In brief, a man page was installed as executable what prevented it to be
