I also forgot to mention this started to occur after power shortage.
Apparently some files stayed corrupted, like ~/local/share/gvfs-
metadata/home.
Deleting ~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata directory fixed this behaviour.

After a recent Karmic update I noticed that my desktop was emptied and I
wasn't able to open home folder or any other. Crashes also occured in,

Occured when compiling gtk+ 2.16.6. Again, snippet fixes it.
