I've been experiencing this problem with my HP laptop (model no: dv6838TX) as well.
I get the loud beep when starting up the Intrepid Alpha 4 installation CD. I immediately restarted the machine and choose safe mode install which did not have this problem. After installation, the beep came back soon after kernel load.
