Whatever the settings of backlights in Unity is (set by ccsm, Ubuntu Tweak, etc
to be off, or edge illumination) the HUD does not follow it (always backlight
on)

The package on gnome-look.org got updated with some new badges. It would
seem that there's no way to get the version number from gnome-look the
URL, so should I rehost the tarball somewhere else?

You can set up debian/watch now. The prefix and suffix will be the same,
but the version number will be updated as new WMs/DEs are
discovered/made their own badge.

For a workaround, use the Magnifier plugin, which actually does it job
and zooms in on the panel and launcher, and increase the width and
height to the max (unfortunately it is only 1000, so most users with
large monitors will not get the same effect)
