Scrap that! :)
A quick lshw revealed that the Realtek NIC was UNCLAIMED.
I hadn't un-blacklisted r8169...
Followed through by doing that, modprobe r8169, depmod and mkinitramfs.
After the boot everything works on 2.6.27 & r8169.ko, thankyouverymuch!

Hello again. I now have it working, having compiled the r8168 driver (v8.008)
from source:

Hi,
my network card doesn't function on Intrepid kernel. This is an upgrade
from Hardy. Using the Hardy kernel (2.6.24-19) it works ok.
I have attached lspci, lshw and uname outputs for each kernel.
Whatever else is needed let me know and I'll try to get it.

I upgraded yesterday to Gutsy to Feisty and had this very problem.
Everything was OK as long as I used 96DPI in Gnome. However changing it
to 80DPI (my preferred setting) made Firefox fonts nearly illegible
(smaller than every other app). Changing layout.css.dpi from -1 to 80 as

fully. Then tried doubleclicking an mp3. Add/Remove appeared but no
