I decided to do a complete removal of the MYSQL and after what appeared
to be a success, installed again.
Again, I get the error, but as per your request, I checked for the log
file and one does not appear to have been created.
So since the upgrade, I can't get the server insatalled.

I'm getting this too. Updated to 3.2.0-35 generic and since then I have
lost my ability to use unity or cairo dock. top bar went missing and
the unity --reset fails similar to the above.
