It also affects me in 9.10 and it should be fixed.
I will try the livecd for Lucid and let you know asap.

In System - Sound - Sounds in the login sound enabled?
This setting made no change in my case, until I turned splash screen on
and it worked. Turning the splash screen off again disabled the sound.

[Gutsy Tribe-5] No Sound on Login Screen or during Login
I just tried it in Gutsy and even though I have a GeForce 8800GTS,
restricted manager installed nvidia-glx instead of nvidia-glx-new which
doesn't even support my card. Of course X failed to start upon restart.
I don't have an older card though to test if it installs nvidia-glx-

I have this problem in Gutsy as well and fixed it by copying over the
file from the official nVidia package.
This bug is pretty critical, it must be fixed in Feisty and make it for
Gutsy. FailsafeX is nice, but working without using it is nicer. :)

[nvidia-glx-new] NVidia driver missing
I have the same problem.
I just got a Geforce 8800GTS and usplash does not appear (my monitor
goes to out of sync and sleep mode). Doesn't matter if I use nvidia or
nv open source drivers. It happens both in Feisty and Gutsy.
It used to work fine with my 6600GT, and it still does.
Please let me
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnome-session
The Gnome splash screen was removed by default on Gutsy as apparently it
slows down login. I believe this is a poor decision that needs to be
changed.

Thanks for the fast reply.
However I think its not really a duplicate as I suggest that the splash
screen comes back (the sound is just one part of the bug report).

Gnome splash screen and sound
Sounds do not work due to the removal of Gnome splash screen.
Enable splash screen (in Configuration Editor, apps - gnome-session -
enable show splash screen) and the sounds should work.

If I remove usplash I can see the boot process (in text) so I guess it
is a bug with usplash and 8 Series.

I can confirm this bug still exists in Network-Manager in Ubuntu 7.04

Hi,
I have the same problem here, Ubuntu Feisty Beta 32bit. Used to work
fine until an update about 1 1/2 week ago.

Indeed, this should be a network-manager problem, as I already said I
*can* connect by manually configuring my connect but not through network
manager.
Thanks.

Hi,
I was the one who originally reported about enabling SSID fixing it,
although I don't know if it can be reproduced in every case.
I can reproduce this problem with two routers, both a Thomson
Speedtouch 585 modem/router and a Netgear WGT624 router.
My wireless card is a Netgear WG511T
I can confirm this as well.
Maybe not that critical but it needs to be fixed to make Feisty a really
polished distro.

I can confirm this too.
Especially when you select a package and needs to find and select other
packages that the first one depends on its so slow you think it has
crashed.
I used Dapper up to yesterday and run the update and its the first
problem I noticed. (used to be very fast there)
