Extracting a zip archive, unzip creates empty files instead of
directories, when the listing does not contain trailing slash.
Interestingly, file-roller does work when extracting from archives like
this. I only encount

The Alsamixer program as run in the terminal has two key volume controls
with relation to getting sound working. Master and Speaker. With a
default install of Lubuntu, both Master and Speaker are
Same here, I was changing preferences and then the program never started
up correctly.
Removing this file,
~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/ristretto.xml
logging out and back in again, did restore Ristretto to its functioning
state. Now I just wont touch the thumbnail option again...

I am experiencining the problem after running ubuntu update manager,
which upgrades firefox 11 to firefox 12 and upgrades Flash player to
11.2.202.235.
Also as a test, I downloaded the non-repository firefox from mozilla
website, and then downloaded the same version of F
Exact steps to reproduce:
1. fresh install ubuntu, xubuntu or lubuntu 11.10
-press ctrl-alt-F1 at any point in the installation, and observe that the
prompt is visible on-screen with tty1.
2. accept all defaults. Don't install updates while installing. Don't connect
the internet.
3. reboot when
It gets a bit more complicated: My tty1 on this laptop is now working.
I can only reproduce this bug on the first boot after install. However,
this happens on first boot with lubuntu and xubuntu, so it is still
consistent, if only in that instance. But if it never happens again on
the machine, I

So, the problem is not the software running on tty1, but it is the
failure to display the text. It may be a bug relating to the hardwar
The same thing happens with Lubuntu 11.10. I would like to add that
tty1 did function properly in the liveCD while running the Install-only
mode. I assume this will also work in the LiveCD mode ("Try ubuntu
without making changes")
