This bug is not resolved.
Using two monitors with Virtual Box on seamless mode on one of those
screens the same problem still exhibits.

In my case the bug and workaround is actually much simpler.
~/.config is left as root/root after the upgrade to hardy
chown ~/.config to your user and restart x and this fixes the problem.

running the mysql-server-5.0 amd64 package you are unable to change any table
in any db called users to the innodb engine
in the i386 package this is not a problem
it is only the mysql.users table that must be myisam
amd64 --

Seems that the ib_logfile size caused a problem here and that just
silently disabled innodb support with this cryptic message beign
returned if you attempted to create any innodb table from that point
onwards
