Jon, thanks for bringing more attention to the bug, however I moved back
to college and I don't have access to my ubuntu box anymore so I won't

updates, if I use mplayer -vo gl, or mplayer -vo gl2, or even the X11
output, I don't get this effect. seems to be narrowed down to Xv somehow
(thats what causes the video to go all crazy)

release, you will _still_ have problems upgrading. You need to remove it

What I said _will_ work. The problem has been around since Ubuntu Feisty
and perhaps even before then. I have to do it all the time when I install
again on my laptop (MacBookPro ATI X1600) and with any other ATI as well.
And yes, you only have to do it once -- install the restricted driver that

Running 7.10 Gusty Gibbon (new install from tribe 4)... run any video file and
kaffeine crashes.
It appears to be using xine. Here is the verbose output:

X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitiali
This has been happening for a long time.
Do this:
once you get booted up: ctrl+alt+F2 to switch to TTY2
sudo pkill gdm (this will usually take you away from TTY2, so ctrl+alt+F2 again)
sudo pkill xorg
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xorg-driver-fglrx
once that is done:
sudo aticonfig -

Using gusty tribe 4 here. I am also having problems with mozilla-
plugin-gnash. Would like to get this fixed. It appears there is
something wrong with the deb, not sure, here is my output when I try to
remove mozilla-plugin-gnash:
