I don't know if this applies to everyone, but i had the same error on my Nikon Coolpix P90, i followed all the steps above (in terms of manually mounting the camera) but it still didn't work. However when i turned off the camera, and removed the sd card, placed it back in, the camera was able to mount successfully.
