Note my comment #29 -- position_fix=1 did not fix the issue then, so

The jittery sound, or skipping/stuttering, renders the system unusable

@WeatherGod: AFAIK, I don't have non-typical ports. gnome-device-manager
shows the following types of USB ports:
82801H (ICH8 Family) USB UHCI
82801H (ICH8 Family) USB2 EHCI
Incidentally, this started happening (in my case) only after upgrading to
Lucid, and others also seem to have this
Upon reading this bug report more closely, it appears that what I'm
seeing may be different from this bug description. If that's the case,
my apologies. However, I do run into the exceptionally large value
issue problem every now and then -- see attached syslog excerpt.

Flash, Java, etc. does not work with out of process plugins and causes Firefox
to become unresponsive
Confirming that it's fixed in FF 3.6.

What's the latest on this bug? I ran into this version confusion when
trying to launch Editra (on Ubuntu 9.10 amd64):
