Me too, ever since I installed Lucid. Hardware runs Win XP faultlessly.

Happened to me when using Disk Utility (while running a CD version of
Ubuntu) to check and if necessary correct file errors on the disk which
contains both Windows and Ubuntu in separate bootable partitions. The
Ubuntu partition no longer boots past login, hence the need to test the
disc.
