This bug may not be a bug at all.
I think the problem was that I unwittingly had xampp running at the same
time I was trying to instal MySQL. After I deactivated xampp the
installation worked.
I can't see any way to delete this, otherwise I would have done it
already.

using Shotwell. Icons for my camera (Kodak Z712 IS) and memory card
would appear on the desktop and be visible in Nautilus. What I couldn't
do was import/move/copy files using any other program than Shotwell.
