I am having trouble using my local mic in apps on the remotely connected
host. A quick web search pointed me here, which seems relevant to my

The problem appears to be in
/usr/share/pyshared/UpdateManager/UpdateManager.py:
There are four occurrences of an odd 'upd!te'. I replaced them with the
more natural 'update' and the installation error is no longer
reproducible.

manager and nvidia (this latter reported separately). Did not take
notes to start with so tried to re-install through Synaptic the two
packages for update manager
Error today on first update manager session following a clean
