On my X1 Carbon I seem to have solved the issue by:
1. changing the BIOS so the Sleep State is in mode "Linux" as opposed to
"Windows and Linux"
2. using Xorg instead of Wayland. -> When you log in, before inserting the
password, click on the cog on the bottom right and choose the "Ubuntu on Xorg
I have just bought an X1 Carbon and I can confirm the issue.

It was probably due to an extension. It doesn't happen anymore since I

Hello.
I have the same problem on an Asus v1JP,, with ATI Mobility Radeon X1700.
I cannot move to Ubuntu 9.04 because there are graphic drivers problems.
I cannot use the
options thinkpad_acpi brightness_enable=1
fix, since mine is not a thinkpad, I think.
What should I do?

SOLVED!
Mathias, thanks a lot for your help.
Probably because of a poorly-made installation in Feisty, the whole
apparmor-profiles package was not installed in my system, and that caused the
problem. It is not even a bug, it's the result of a bad installation.

I've got a question: since I think I might have installed apparmor in Feisty

upgrade.
Can I simply unistall it and reinstall it in Gutsy or would i break the system?
I really need to get rid of those 5 minutes boot time. I
It seems this is a version of bug 140274

that seems to be marked as solved, but there's no suggestion on how to solve it
there.
