connections, but about the user specific ones. And for your analogy i
must disagree, the differences to /etc/shadow ist that it contains
encrypted passwords, where NM stores them in clear text.

Jep that's true, AFAIK you need to delete the old entry from
"/home/USER/.config/autostart/" and then copy "/etc/xdg/autostart/alarm-
clock-applet.desktop" to that place.
An alternative is to use the GUI for editing autostarts and just change
the command to "--hidden".

Just for the record i just tested it on the same scanner modell (HP
OfficeJet 5515) with that i first reported this bug and i can fully
confirm it is fixed in current Simple Scan from precise. Now the scanner

As Tomas rightly noted it's even more complicated in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
than it was back in lucid, as you can't drag from the launcher and
dragging from the dash is more tricky because you have to findle with
the window position.
Colan's idea about right click "autostart" in the Unit
Alberto's great work to make Hamster usable again on our default desktop
is still not in Ubuntu!!! Therefore i did take a shot at the packaging i
found in his PPA and made it IMHO ready for inclusion (see the changelog
for my improvements).

Since 10th of December we finally have a new stable release of Liferea
(1.8.0). Ubuntu still is on the old and soon unsupported stable series
with version 1.6.6 for precise.
We should change that asap! Main reason is that an unhacked Liferea on
our default filesystem EXT4 is
Trying to confirm with "03f0:5d11 Hewlett-Packard PhotoSmart C5200
series" on latest precise there are quite some crashes.
To reproduce: do a scan, quit in the middle of it and try to push scan
again. So yes it seems like it's about interferring with pending jobs.

Then i need to reopen, as i already confirmed it with a later version
then 2.31.90.1. Back then it was relative easy to crash Simple Scan but
just keep on scanning.

With version 3.2.1-0ubuntu2 this already works quite good: you choose a
filename and addtional picture scans will get numbers appended. When
opening the scan dialog the first time you in deed still got presented
the default filename, but you can't simply overwrite it and typing a
different filename
Just tested 3.2.1-0ubuntu2 under precise with "04a9:220d Canon, Inc.
CanoScan N670U/N676U/LiDE 20" and misusing all available buttons i am
not able to reproduce this bug anymore.
If we could confirm this for the HP modells i would vote for "invalid",
as it seems fixed in current releases.

So i finally came to testing Simple Scan under precise (3.2.1-0ubuntu2)
and at least with a Canon CanoScan LiDE 20 (04a9:220d) i can confirm the
UI lags are gone (altough the scanner itself is horribly slow).

@jyanek: you will probably just need the evolution, evolution-common,
evolution-plugins & libevolution packages for your architecture. the
next update will automatically remove my packages if the version number
is at least 2.30.3-1ubuntu8.

okay i see, it's just that in my case the battery also won't charge any
further than the wrong value. at least that's what i can say from the
discharge time. but i would really be good to recheck that stuff in
windoze, but reinstalling and deleting again that's to much time. maybe
i can find a matc
BTW i forget: the packages on my PPA will get superseded once we get
official packages or unrelated updates.

i tried to do a dvbcut-ng package with the Qt4 patch that comes with
svn171. but i could get it working, atleast not under GNOME with
QGtkStyle, it only shows a weird window with two buttons and the
horzitional scrollbar.
did anyone manage to get the Qt4 patch working?

Memory usage is still a concern. On 2.32 the app crashed on scanning
about 80 pages due to too low memory:
GLib-ERROR **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.24.1/glib/gmem.c:137: failed to allocate

I did it on a machine with 1 GB RAM, before starting Simple Scan memory
