The way in which I discovered this bug was while attempting to redirect
stderr of a running process. Below is a simple way to reproduce the
issue.
$ ./long-running-process
>>> Open a new shell.
$ pgrep -fai long-running
15123 ./long-running-process
$ gdb -p 15123
...
(gdb) co
*** BUG ***
In pixman_region32_init_rect: Invalid rectangle passed
Set a breakpoint on '_pixman_log_error' to debug

All of this would be vaguely tolerable if, of course, you could easily create a
self signed cert using the ubuntu openssl package, as elucidated here :
