If it helps, this happened again when vsftp tried to upgrade, and I found that if I kill the vsftpd process as Update Manager is hanging on its update, Update Manager continues its work. Maybe there's a deadlock or something? -- package vsftpd 2.2.2-3ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade:
