Fixed my problem.
While looking through /var/log/syslog, I noticed this line around the
same time swap mount failed.

Just did a fresh install of 20.04 as a Proxmox VM and see this "invalid

manually also fails. Tried recreating it, also failed.

FWIW, I did basically the same process on 19.04 and it didn't crash.
I also didn't boot because the installer fails to recognize the
encrypted root and doesn't even appear to attempt making a crypttab.

Just upgraded from 17.10 to 18.04, sorry, I somehow didn't realize my
laptop was still back on 17.10. Anyway, 17.10 suspend/resume was
perfect. But after about 10 resumes on 18.04, the wired NI

Was going through the regular GUI upgrade process from 16.04, message
kept coming up dozens of times. After clicking CLOSE on about the 20th
one, I just held ENTER until they went away. Upgrade continued, gave a
message at the end that something didn't install right and my system
might be unstable.
Had the same hang. Client is Ubuntu 15.10 and server is 14.04, both up
to date as of today. Fix was to change client MTU from 9000 to 1500.

Additional: I removed mtr-tiny and installed mtr. Running mtr opens a
GUI window and that can be paused and unpaused without affecting the CPU
use. However, adding the '-t' option to run in curses mode, will
reproduce the high CPU use when paused.

downloads shows the current version of kismet, but when I run "kismet
--version" I see an old version.

fglrx or fglrx-updates drivers, reboot, within 6 hours my 8GB RAM is
used up and swap is thrashing.

get --purge autoremove, then reboot again... memory use

gwibber color

Just upgraded from Kubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 beta and Gwibber loaded fine.
However, I can barely read anything in the window. The text is black,
like normal, but the background the text is on is dark grey/gadiant
black. Like this: http://imgur.com/6AW9J

Ok, I don't know what's going on. It looks like it might have helped
some flash videos. After not actually using flash for a few hours, I had
left Firefox open after doing the LD_PRELOAD, I tried a few youtube
videos.
To my delight, they worked fine. So I put it to a further test and
watched a 720

I tried what Linus said with the file, compiled it and did an LD_PRELOAD
on VLC and Firefox. VLC got through most of one song and then stopped.
Firefox, I wasn't able to watch any youtube video

Just grabbed a log for pulseaudio. I can see why the system becomes
unresponsive, this log was 13MB after just a min of trying to play
audio. This was after putting in tsched=0.

Even with 2 different sound cards?
Playing directly to alsa is almost acceptable. Couldn't pulseaudio
handle this better than making the whole system unstable?
