That is very strange, cause I get the same results on two systems now.
When you press Alt-backtick, make sure you hold Alt key for about 2
seconds, then hold backtick (`).
Also another way to see the key press is by doing:
Alt-Tab, continue holding Alt key, release Tab, then press Backtick key.

Here is my perf record. Runnning on a T400. System hangs every 3 seconds
for about .5 to 1 second continuously. I an duplicate this bug usually
when docking/redocking or suspend/resume.

I just built a minimal ubuntu system, albeit there are a few background
services running. I'm seeing jbd2 disk access in iotop. Its happening
every between 30 seconds, up to 2 min. Maybe we just need a better way
to find out what processes are causing the disk activity.

The "bootwait" workaround was successful.
The only problem is that the I couldn't get the password prompt to show
up and had to resort to the recovery console. Even then it took me
separate attempts to get the password accepted. I'm guessing this is
another issue already being addressed.

I ran a couple of tests today. I found out that if I disabled my
secondary crypt disks, the services come up at boot. I tried 2 or 3
times, and its worked each time now.
This leads me to believe the issue is with the LUKS password entry and
the somehow the init system is getting stuck if the luks

Just wondering if any has actually seen an improvement in this bug? I
just updated and followed the suggestions from Conn, but still have
stuttering on audio. The changes from Conn seamed to make it more

but pointer is still movable, only no button clicks are accepted. I can
usually get out to a terminal and restart gdm, in which case the display

By "installer" I meant the "post-installation script" run by
landscape-common.
As for the root account, it was set to the Ubuntu default setting. I just
installed 8.04.1 about 1 week before I upgraded to 8.10. I did not set a
root password at that time.

Yeah, I was upgrading to 8.10 using apt-get. The console was static for
about 5 minutes and no processor usage, so I hit Control-C.
I ended up just removing this package. I think it's for remote
management which I do not need.
