Binary package hint: totem
When playing mp3 in totem, the "skip to..." is not available on random base.
Also the slider is greyed.
Opening the same mp3 a secomd time solves the issue from time to time.

I can confirm that the described workaround works for me!
You have first to turn Assistive Technologies off, logoff & logon.
Then nautilus works fast as expected even with thousands file and also
over SFTP!

To precise the behaviour: The networkMannger Applet is there, but it
shows a orange exlamation mark. If you click on it, is says greyed:
Wired Newwork. Unmanged device"
Before the update it should the config of the wired interface.

After patching tmy 8.10 system today (16-dec-2008) with several BIND patches,
my networkpanel (NetworkManager Applet 0.7.0) does not show my wired network
connection anymore (eth0). It says device is unmananged.
But networking is working fine. Ifconfig, route are showing the

One more addition:
the problem is only existent in the Natilus "List view", the other both
modes are just working as expected.

you are probably right. the Problem lies on the Nautilus side. I have the
problem also with opening local folders containing thousands of jpg's and/or
avi's. It's not a gvfs problem.
Opening a local folder with this content takes also minutes to open and
nautilus is using 90% of CPU

First it's the number of files which seems to slow down Nautilus. Please try to
reproduce the error with a directory > 2500 files.
I tried it with gvfs-ls, ist's fast, the gvfs-ls takes < 1 sec for these 2500
files. Nautilus is working at least 30 seconds and in this time CPU load is
high.

Nautilus 2.24.1 is very slow and CPU hungy compared to version in 8.04.
Listing a directory with about 3000 files takes ~1 Minute. Openening sttp on
the commandline a ls is fast like hell.

Have the same/similar behaviour on my 8.04 beta4 machine.
I receive "The interface does not exist" if I press the configure button in
gnome-nettool.
But gnome-nettool does show the counter for this interface (eth0). This
computer has only lo and eth0, no wireless.
