Worth noting that consistently, this seems to occur with methods/https
in the PS list. I have two HTTPS sources on this machine -- one which is
unique to it (the issue occurs elsewhere, though), and one over a VPN.
So it's also possible that this is happening on _resume_, before the VPN
reconnects,

This time, I got it right and got a trace on everything:
Output is for "thread apply all bt" in gdb for each pid (other than
systemd) in "pstree -sp 42017".
It looks like it's definitely stuck inside a network call.

and other extensions during the Ubuntu 25.04 installation.
They didn't copy all the files like mysqli.so to /etc/php/8.4/mods-
available and then run phpenmod to copy them under apache and cli.

I tried to do `sudo do-release-upgrade`, but it fails everytime. I
already removed every custom repo and cleaned up
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/, I upgraded all packages and restarted the PC.
Nevertheless, the error always occurs.

workqueue: inode_switch_wbs_work_fn hogged CPU
It was suggested that I try adding the canonical-x staging PPA to check
a fix, but it seems the issue is still present. after update/upgrade the
system still attempts to keep back mesa packages. I've attached a full
list of the offered upgradeable packages to my comment.

It's worth saying that jammy is also affected by this bug
Even though you can't compile the reproducer c++ code with the packaged version
of gcc, it's still possible to either install gcc13 and compile/run it or to
run a binary compiled on a different machine and trigger the issue

If I knew what had caused the xfce stuff to be installed causing this
issue, I would point the finger to the guilty package. As it is I
guess it *might* be the release-upgrade code. I never (knowingly)
installed xfce nor any packages that require it.

Hmmm I ran sudo apt autoremove --purge xfce*
and rebooted, problem has gone - why xfce was installed I don't
understand as I never installed any on the packages that relied upon it
that were also removed.

option "save to PDF"
It used to make several useful offerings.
