I also have a raid, but the raid is not for boot only storage.
Installer tried to use the raid to install grub, hope its not trashed my

I have just come accross this problem on ubuntu 12.04.
using strace I can see it gets stuck on stat() for a file on a network
drive that is not available.
It seems that if you wait a while, 2 minutes or so it carries on.

Same for me. Running 12.04 and noticed that when gimp (2.8) is open but
there is no launcher icon, opening a file does not bring gimp into focus
even though the file opened.

I have a connection remmina open to another desktop, while using that I
will alt-tab windows and it is fine. Once I click on something in the
launcher Ubuntu will switch to the local app but pops up the HUD search
