I could also get this problem resolveed by changing the setting 'key-
stroke-generator' to 'AT-SPI'

I have found out some more infos;
After replacement of all deprecated gdk calls (see
https://github.com/dr-ni/onboard)
The behaviour is still the same.
So I think there is another problem.

since this repo seems to be dead.
