Ah YES! thank you Mr Kulyk! apparently, it wasn't installed. so after installing it via the terminal "sudo apt-get install compiz-gnome" I now have fancy windows, with the titlebars. although, I would have thought when upgrading from feisty to the beta gibbon, that it would have installed it then.
