I discovered a new mistake here, I thought first this is some kind of

paul, charleys - is that official ubuntu view that users who find this
issue being painfully annoying and months with burning hot laptop is a
bit too much - should go and change distro (and what this next
suggestion was)?
I for one find it too, tad slow reactions for bug that really fucks up

never used hibernate on my t61. excessive heating starts right after
clean restart.

michael, having this as my primary computer for about 7 months now and
using it every single day with all the same programs running the same
way in quiet environment, one gets used to how this thing behaves, how
fast fan rotates and ho hot it gets. as does one notice how often and
for how long onde
after week on windows, ubuntu has updates including -13 kernel... after
which machine fails to boot! physically on-off, then boot. no programs
running except boinc client with extra low processor/memory usage
settings (intrepid ran same shit with default settings) and darn thing
keeps stepping both

could it be, that becuase for whatever reason 9.04 changes speeds of two
cores independently, it also evaluates busy/idle thresholds
independently?
say, threshold for jumping up the speed is/was x (whatever unit of
whatever measurement) and when proces...@8.10 reached this threshold,
speed was ste
does anybody know, where/how are thresholds managed, when and how much
processor speed should be stepped up when they are busy enough? is there
any changes made between 8.10 and 9.04?
all the time i was running boinc client under 8.10 and cpu were set to
ondemand and no matter what other processes
/me has also latest updates and original problem persists just fine.

something wrong with cpufreq-selector also. in old days, it just used to
work. setting speed, et this for both cores.
sudo cpufreq-selector -f 80
now this sets one, cpu0(yes, I know I can use -c parameter), and starts
to wait something...

seems like cpu freq applet has suddenly started modifying cpu speeds
independently for two cores... i kinda remember that at 8.10 changing
one changed the other too.
something seems to be changed with thresholds too, setting both cores at
ondemand and running my usual set of apps, machine still ru
T61, same story. After updating 8.10 to 9.04 laptop runs hot as hell.
Even with cpufreq-selector set to lowest speed, this thing is unusable
as laptop, at least on lap...

Hardy on T41: some files are opened with vim or gedit from usb-disk, do
the suspend, wake up - there is second "2.1 GB Media" icon on desktop.
Mounts are disk for first one, disk-1 for second. Opened files are not
accessible anymore, You have to close all of them, because "disk" is now
empty, only
server 710, client 804 - it works again after todays upd

My 8.04 clients Totem stopped playing smb:// files from 7.10 server
suddenly some 5 hours ago in the middle of playlist... No updates were
installed at that time, nor were neither of computers restarted, conf
changed - anything.
Using /home/user/.gvfs/share/... paths works fine, as does using VLC
