I also have some stange problems with the intel driver and external output. It all started the other day when I tried to make GDM show in a higher resolution. I tried doing xrandr ---output LDMS --auto --output TDMS-1 --auto in the end of /etc/gdm/Init/Default. This seemed to work fine,
