Yeah - I've been given the same laptop to fix for sound and just
upgrading to 8.10 and 9.04 has done nothing to solve the problem.

Hi, I have a new DVR-116D which seems to do everything just fine apart
from recognising DVD-R, including DVD-R which it has just burnt itself.
The discs I burn in it show up fine in my other drive, popup an icon on
the desktop, play in mplayer etc but nothing for the DVR-116D
I can't say for certain that I tried oss but I tried a lot of things
over a couple of days. I don't have access to that laptop as it was a
friends, but if I do I'll upgrade it to hardy when that's available and
let you know if anything changes.

Yeah - in Gutsy just couldn't get it to work - ended up buying a usb
sound adapter like this one:

I've got the same card, chipset and OS - and exactly the same problem.
I've looked around for ages searching for a solution, following
