I am running the Compiz backport for Feisty and the Java GUI apps are
working fine. I am also running Java 1.6. There is a plugin for
workaround that has a Java checkbox. Its in the CompizConfig
Settings-Workaround-Java Window Fix. I did not have to enable this
plugin for my computer.

After downloading a new kernel, you may need to run make clean before
running the make. This is only if you are using a previously extracted
directory.
Here are the steps again:
./configure --with-cards=hda-intel
make clean
make -j 8
sudo make install
Then reboot.

if they can manage to install should say if they can manage to boot
the installer. I of course haven't tried that, but I believe they will
not even be able to boot the Release installer. The instructions you
put require a bootable kernel from the Release installer.

I thought the same thing as Christian. Wasn't the beta freeze

I noticed that there was an alsa update in today's updates. However, I
am still getting the very low sound volume. Has the fix for this bug
come out yet?

Thanks. Your instructions worked perfectly. After the reboot I have to
re-install my Nvidia drivers. Other than that everything went well.
I have went months without sound. Its funny how much you need/want
sound on computers nowadays.

I can confirm Patrick's issue with 2.6.20-14. As of now with all of the
current updates, 2.6.20-14 still stops at Loading ACPI.

Is the 2.6.20-14 kernel out for an apt-get yet? The apparently interim
2.6.20-13-?? still has the same issue. In other words, with all of the
updates as of this moment, I cannot boot into 2.6.20-13-?? still and am
still using 2.6.20-12.

You might want to check the license restrictions again. You were
looking at the license of an ea or early access release. The full
release is out now.

I am also experiencing this issue. However, no variation on the acpi
(acpi=off, acpi=force, acpi=on, noacpi) will work. This was as of last
week's updates. My Feisty install has been working fine for months
previously. Now when I try to boot from the previous kernels, they hang

Daniel - Sorry to be a bit dense and ask a follow up question. I asked
if Feisty was going to ship without fixing the bug. You said yes, the
fix is in ubuntu.git. Does that mean that the bug is fixed and awaiting
release with Feisty? Or does that mean we need to manually patch our

This issue is affecting me too. As of today's updates, the audio level
is very low.
Does the recent beta freeze mean that Feisty is going to ship with this
bug?
