This error occurs with NTFS (ntfs3g) and Feisty (Firefox 2.0.0.3), too
(see my bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/105474). I worked
around it with solution 2 from above.

Firefox 2 can't save to fat32 partition

You received this bug
O.k. It seems to work now, I have mounted the partitions now with:
/dev/sdb1 /media/Daten ntfs-3g
user,noexec,nosuid,nodev,dmask=000,fmask=111,locale=de_DE.UTF-8 0 0
/dev/sda1 /media/System ntfs-3g
user,noexec,nosuid,nodev,dmask=000,fmask=111,locale=de_DE.UTF-8 0 0
This is o.k. for the moment,
I currently mount the ntfs- partitions with no special permission masks
(only charset is set to de.UTF8). But I'll try to play around with them
this evening.

Well - strange. I thought I had searched thoroughly. However I now found
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/65164
which is about fat32, but may relate to the same problem.

You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu
Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu
can confirm this, because it does not appear with Epiphany.
I have also tested a standard mozilla build of firefox and the problem
does not occur either. I suspect a bug in the Ubuntu firefox build.

Many thanks. Adding "usb-handoff" indeed helps. I wonder why it has
never been mentioned before.

62072 really seems to be a duplicate of this bug, 64873 and 66122 look
slightly different, as none of "noapic", "nolapic", "acpi=off" have an
effect on booting for me.

The same applies to my - if I disconnect all usb devices, the system
brings me up to the GUI. I can plug the devices in again and they work.
This is with Edgy RC.

I have the following problem (at least since Flight 6, but not with

I own a ASUS K8N-E board (Nforce 3 250GB) that has a number of USB 2.0 ports -
these used to work in Breezy without problem. Yet, if I start Dapper (live cd,
