I have tried rosegarden here and it worked worser then kmid. kmid was
able to show the text, which rosegarden was not. In both cases, no sound
comes out.

Running kmid on kubuntu feisty fawn. As described before, no sound comes
out. Yet, mid files can be played with timidy. Sound and text come out.
