I have just installed and updated 12.10 on Optiplex 380.

Hi,
I have now had several skype chat sessions which have not frozen up.
I found the solution after rereading the skype forum postings.
I saw the recommendation to take out all audio notifications.
I did this by going through each notification, and unchecking the box to play
an audio notificat
I've just seen this comment in the forum.

The only error I had following the instructions is that I don't have a boot
menu, and I can't figure out how to get one.

Unity is unable to find any applications in dash when I press
I can't even open a terminal. I type terminal in dash and nothing shows
up. I go to Ubuntu software centre, and I see Terminal is installed.
Ditto Synaptic. I will restart to see if the problem is still there.

This has happened to me as well. Installing 9.10 onto Dell Optiplex
GX260. LiveCD was fine. Installation went fine. Boot up after
installation hung on blank screen. Googled for instructions, removed
compiz, still didn't boot properly. Had to boot with F3. Then everything
looks ok. But recently scre
I was running out of space on my 4GB boot up flash card, and reclaimed
800MB by clearing out 4 old kernels.
I figured out how to do it, but it would have been helpful if Janitor
had given me the suggestion.

I left it running twice. First time for about 20-30 min, then about an
hour.
I then checked the machine, and it only had 512 MB RAM, so I installed
Xubuntu. 8.04 Runs great.
My suggestion is that the installation script should check RAM and
suggest Xubuntu if less than 1 GB.
