what you mean by "changed font packages" I have installed some fonts
from the repository but I haven't changed them as in with a hex-editor.

while - in the 1.4.5 release from December 2006.

Had any luck philinux? I have the same problem, everything was fine with
7.10, now problem introduced by 8.04.

Some more information on this:
Trying to mount a CD is sometimes possible via mount -t iso9660
/dev/dvd3 /mnt. Opening /mnt in Nautilus is possible afterwards, it
gives a correct directory listing. Anyway, trying to copy the files via
drag and drop in Gnome fails with the message:
/mnt/bin/chrome
After these messages my computer starts up as expected. So the bug is
only about the 15 second delay.

over and over again, until the drive runs out of space. Happened to me
twice on commercially produced PDFs. Unfortunately, the documents are

I was a little hasty in reporting this bug. It is not certain that
pdfimages enters an infinite loop. It could be that the PPM images take
up exceptional amounts of space. In my case, I aborted pdfimages after
it created 1.9GB of images from a PDF 11MB in size. Using -j did not
create any JPGs.
Okay I need to apologize again. This is my first time filing a bug
report. The man page for my version of pdfimages refers to XPDF but the
version actually installed is from poppler. So I filed against the
wrong package but don't know how to fix it.

only .5MB/1MB options. IIRC, my GX150 i815 with Hardy has a BIOS with

Leann, the fact that no kernel fix is expected for the foreseeable
future is no reason to WONTFIX. A fix will come from somewhere at some
point. It's just not entirely clear where it will come from, or when.
There has always been a fix available by recompiling the kernel to
restore IDE and preload
I can confirm this bug on hardy. htdig uses lockfile-create, lockfile-
touch and lockfile-remove in /etc/cron.daily/htdig, yet it does not
depend on lockfile-progs.

There seem to be several different bugs with similar manifestations. In
my case (don't morph my bug! :-) the problem /only/ occurs at initial
startup. Once I get past the first couple of seconds, the computer keeps
running without any problems, no matter how much I stress the CPU.

unfortunately I have no way to know the BIOS's idea of my CPU's
temperature because my laptop's BIOS setup does not display this
information. However, it's very unlikely that this is a BIOS bug because
neither 2.6.17-ubuntu nor 2.6.21-vanilla (which I'm using at the moment)
