using a third party tweaking tool so you cannot blame ubuntu for not

cannot have unity-greeter read from a directory that is only readable to your
user account. The two things are mutually exclusive.

Thats strange, i just tested it, i copied a file to
usr/share/backgrounds/ and chmod 777(it should be chmod 644 really
anyway), it works fine, maybe you still had the other copy set as your
background?(i had to browse to the file, as it's not in the xml index of
pictures)

I've experienced a very similar problem Ubuntu 9.10. copying a large
file from ext4 filing system to USB ntfs drive (23GB). mount.ntfs
consuming 85-95% + of CPU most of which is %user. iostat 6 100 shows
writes at 83/sec or less. It will succeed eventually but will probably

concerned that the CD starts installing and
changing the partitions to the hard disk, even though
it is supposed to run from the CD and not change your
system at all. I had to catch it before it messed up
my installation. Very aggressive. Not for human
beings at all. I'd trash it.
