I just found this bug report after experiencing the same problem in 11.04
Seeing that gnome-settings-daemon throws an error I tried killall
gnome-settings-daemon and after a short pause, my expected theme reappeared. I
didn't even have to log out.
Maybe this will help others until a fix is found.
It's the solution of choice for the Launcher - try setting your Launcher
icon size to 64 and it will happily scale Thunderbird up that level.
Surely a touch of anti-aliasing could appease the nay sayers...
It just seems like a better, more unified (pun intended) solution than
having one tiny icon
Unity-2D appears to scale the Thunderbird icon used for Check Email - is
this something that can be implemented here?

Haha - spoke too soon. Just logged in to post here and thought I'd

this hasn't gone away.
Feel free to ask for any help on this - I'll happily sit here r

Behaviour is correct now but the Thunderbird icon is about half the size
of its neighbours and the icon highlight, when hovered, is off-centre
(vertically) and also too small.

@Karl Lattimer: I've got the debug symbols already installed so I can do

then.

OK, I just tried this scenario again and the settings window did NOT appear
when I clicked Time& Date.
So I re-ran the process status command you gave me and got this:
jb@jb-K7S41:~$ ps ax | grep indicator-datetime

/usr/lib/indicator-datetime/indicator-datetime-service
This is the result:

but testing the bug after that command shows that the behaviour is as it should

Not sure why but today this works correctly. I always check my reported
bugs behaviours after running update manager and after today's round of
updates this bug seems fixed (indirectly or via a similar bug report)
